Gerry, that walnut/oak camper was built on a brand new 1946 Chevy chassis (frame, motor, hood, dashboard and steering) by a master craftsman (Fred Stein). After his death in 1966 it was sold to his friend Dr. Leonard Koenen.

Stein never had any interest in patenting or capitalizing on all the first of their kind systems the had invented to create his dream motorhome. He installed a 100 lb liquid propane tank that fueled a four burner stove, oven and refrigerator as well as a water heating system. The rig was also air conditioned... Remember, this was 1946!!!

The Stein's first trip with the "Modern Gypsy" was to visit relatives in Louisiana. That maiden voyage turned out to be an unanticipated inconvenience. Curious motorists would follow them for miles, others would pass and slow down signaling them to pull over... After that trip they only took outings closer to home where the rig was familiar...

Thanks for posting that futuristic rocket motorhome but if I had a choice, you know which I'd want... LOL
