I grew up just outside Chicago, and Darley was THE brand for volunteer fire departments, and small towns around IL. They sold everything from completed pumpers and tankers, down to the smallest items needed by fire departments (just as they still do today) from a catalog. Our local VFD converted a '41 Ford COE from a stake truck to a pumper when my uncle was a volunteer in 1952. This is exactly the setup we had. I became a volunteer in '65, and helped replace the original 350 gpm Darley Champion front-mount pump with a 500 gpm Darley pump we got from a wrecked pumper in '66. It was literally a bolt-on swap with the same mounts as shown from the Darley manual above. Boy, how times have changed.
