GM had to release drawings to AMT well ahead of actual production

John Mueller would have to comment on wait times, but, I'd imagine at least a year from the first drawings to shooting plastic.

In that time frame, though, designers and accountants would be fussing the absolute daylights out of the 'finished' products... based on executive reviews, cost reductions, dealer feedback or all the above.

Big changes were rare, but trim and nitzy details got changed all the time. Or, the car they scaled out may have been a 'mix' of parts from different trim levels, and someone just didn't pass the message along to merchandising and whoever was responsible for managing the account with AMT.
