To add to Frank's story, about 6 or 7 years ago I had an excruciating pain in my abdomen towards the right side, and went to the hospital a couple hours later. I said to the doc:"I've had a bleeding ulcer, a hernia and kidney stones,...

...and it's not them, so about the only thing left is the appendix." An hour later he came back into my room to tell me the test results, and he raised his arms and jokingly said "You're RIGHT! It is the appendix, and it's coming out right now!" This was at 4 in the morning, and when I woke up at noon, I felt great. They tried to give me pain medication and I said no, I'm fine. I asked if I could get up and they said yes, so I walked all around my floor talking to the patients in other rooms. An hour later I went home and went back to work. I never did need any pain medication.

The point is, there's a world of difference if you get there before it bursts, as I did. So if you think you might have a serious problem, GO TO THE HOSPITAL NOW! Don't hesitate. It can make the difference between breezing though it as I did or have the troubles that Frank did.
