Sorta off topic... It's about chroming parts for my 1:1 truck project...

This week I brought parts (grille sub-structure, gravel pan, etc) to a fellow down the street who does sandblasting at his truck repair shop... That's not a problem except that it's been raining on and off all week and the same is forecast for next week... I'm fine with that, I'll get them when I get them, he primes them with epoxy primer right after sandblasting and has done great work for me before.

Because I had removed my grille to send the sub-structure to be sandblasted and that I had a cousin visiting who lives in the same city as the chrome plater, I decided to pack up my grille pieces and ask him to drop them off at the plater for a quotation to get triple plating done on them. The company had given a rough price of $1,800.-$2,200. over the phone. That's provided that the grille pieces were in good shape. My grille was perfect and would require NO metal working whatsoever... Just some surface rust and undercoating overspray on the back and a thin coat of primer on the front that would be removed chemically.

Got the email quote today and nearly fell off my chair... $3,500. CDN !!! Plus the shipping costs back to me, probably for another couple hundred dollars... Sheesh!!! A Chinese repopped grille, fully chromed and substructure EDP painted now goes for $450-$500. USD (I have one of those already that I bought a few years ago, it's good but the chrome wasn't that great)

I guess my cousin will be making another trip to pick up my grille pieces and if I can't find chroming for less, they'll be monochrome to match the truck...

Frustration lives on...

Not my truck but to show what the 5 grille bars look like...
