As an Auburn 851/852 has no more exposed chassis than a Duesenberg, Packard, or Rolls Royce!. Rather than blame those so-called "big box stores", I'd say bear in mind that in the 1960's and 70's, the driving force for new model car kits were the Boomers--who in large numbers simply did not buy a lot of model kits of antique or "classic" cars--the 1960's to the early 1980's.
