Except Costco has honed their business model, store layout, merchandising, etc to perfection over decades.

Sam's Club was a knockoff, but not a very good one. People who were not Wal Mart shoppers wouldn't get out of the car to go there; people who were Wal Mart shoppers couldn't afford it.

Costco's operating model is intelligent and respectful to the customer, and they treat their employees about as well as anyone in retail.
