When I was growing up, '52-'56 Fords were everywhere. They were sort of the default American car. Plymouths weren't very exciting, and even less so when they continued the '54 for a couple more years here. Chevys were only sold with the six and manual, until the '60 model. So if you were spending up big for a US-style car in fifties Australia, Ford was the obvious choice. Ford Australia did a limited run of station wagons - I've seen two styles - but aside from that it was four door sedan only, in one trim level. There seem to be quite a few Victorias nowadays though - I don't get out and about much, but I've seen quite a few.
