I suspect most of these were created by removing the rear door area from a 4 door wagon, a body style that was long considered the least desirable body style by most enthusiasts.....

All of these look to be well done and if the owner is happy that's the main thing. There are some advantages: greater percent of weight on the rear wheels for improved acceleration capability, easier to park, and they're definitely different so they stand out.

I think much of the current fascination with long roofs is that the supply of the most desirable body styles ( 2 door hardtops and sedans, and convertibles) is dwindling but 4 doors and wagons are still relatively affordable.
