I worked at a Ford dealership from '66-'71 prepping new vehicles for delivery.

As I remember from the hundreds of vehicles I worked on, the oil filters from the plant on NEW vehicles were blue, like the rest of the engine as the filter was installed on the engine before they painted and "run in" at the engine plant. The replacement Autolite filters installed at the 90 day/3,000 mile first oil change were white. The shocks from the plant were also black like the rest of the chassis parts. They were sub-assembled before the rear axle/suspension or front suspension were installed on the vehicle/frame depending on whether they were uni-body or body-on-frame vehicles. Likewise, spark plug wires were always black no matter which engine they were used on.
